BNE is the trade association, created in 2010, for terrestrial broadcast network operators in Europe. The purpose of BNE is to secure long-term business opportunities and develop a common voice and lobbying platform for the BNE members.
BNE currently has 16 members with operations in 19 European countries. Members are Arqiva (UK), Cellnex (Spain), České Radiokomunikace (Czech Republic), Digea (Greece), Emitel (Poland), ETV (Serbia), Elettronica Industriale (Italy), Media Broadcast (Germany), Norkring (Norway), OiV (Croatia), ORS (Austria), Swisscom Broadcast (Switzerland), Radiocom (Romania), 2RN (Ireland), TDF (France) and Teracom (Sweden). In addition, Terrestrial Network Operators in Belgium, Estonia and Monaco are represented by their respective parent (and BNE member) company.
Since its creation, BNE has worked closely with the relevant European institutions and major stakeholders such as the European Commission, the European Parliament, ITU and European Broadcasting Union (EBU). BNE has become recognized as a strong voice both in Brussels and Geneva defending business opportunities and safeguarding the availability of suitable frequency spectrum for the terrestrial broadcasting service. This has been remarkably successful, with BNE repeatedly achieving its main goals.
Looking ahead, BNE expects further continuing challenges where technology developments, revised legislation and international agreements will affect the audiovisual sector. Even if terrestrial broadcast spectrum for TV is secured by EU legislation until at least 2030 the advent of new technologies will make the current infrastructure of terrestrial broadcast network operators attractive for new and additional services well beyond 2030. To this end the broadcasting sector needs to have the strongest possible voice through BNE in the coming years.

Digital Radio Mondiale™ (DRM) is the universal, openly standardised digital radio system for all broadcasting frequencies and coverage needs.
DRM on short, medium and long wave up to 30 MHz provides for the efficient coverage in large areas with at least FM quality, while significantly reducing power consumption. DRM in the FM & VHF bands above 30 MHz enables flexible local and regional broadcaster-controlled services, with up to 3 stereo audio programmes plus multimedia components in half the bandwidth of a single analogue FM signal.
Advanced radio functionality thanks to DRM comprises: More services based on the highly efficient audio codec MPEG xHE-AAC and free-to-air Journaline multi-lingual text information, detailed service signalling, service linking (including to analogue AM/FM services) and DRM EWF – Emergency Warning Functionality. Enhanced DRM features include native Unicode support, station logos via SPI, Slideshow images and traffic and travel information.
The DRM Consortium was awarded by ITU for its outstanding contribution to the Telecommunications sector over the past years and has signed the EBU Smart Radio Memorandum that promotes access to free to air radio on all devices.

We deliver innovative products and services to the Broadcasting Equipment Industry - using our scientific and technological expertise – to give a clear technical and economic advantage to our customers.
Founded in 2003, PROGIRA are pioneers in planning, designing, and optimization of radio-frequency networks. We traced our roots to Teracom – the national broadcast network operator in Sweden. A team of engineers from Teracom, based in Luleå in the north of Sweden, developed solutions to address the numerous issues they faced in planning and managing broadcast networks for the national operator. They developed a broadcast network planning software which has made digital rollout in Sweden a breeze. The need for such a broadcast network planning software outside of Teracom became strikingly evident, as countries all over the world began their digital rollout strategies. Therefore, four engineers from Teracom who were instrumental in developing the broadcast network planning solution, commercialized the software, now known as PROGIRA® plan, and went on to become the founders of PROGIRA.
At PROGIRA, we are committed to making a difference in how radio-frequency networks are managed across the globe. Our range of cutting-edge software and solutions empower clients to achieve their network coverage requirements, reduce cost and resolve digital dividend. Our state-of-the-art algorithms enable accurate planning for maximum efficiency. Besides, PROGIRA’s solutions are empowered by world’s leading GIS platform from Esri, offering the best digital cartography that helps you make headway in radio-frequency planning.
Staffed by professionals with a combined experience of more than 100 years, we know what matters most in developing and managing radio-frequency networks. Our solutions are tailored to fast track all phases of the broadcast network development: initiation, planning, implementation and coverage verification. With focus on innovation, PROGIRA launched two brand-new software: PROGIRA® plan for server which modernizes radio-frequency network planning through automation, and PROGIRA® manager - the spectrum management system, designed with a strong foundation for customization, scalability, and security. Now, we have customers from more than 50 countries around the world.

WorldDAB is the global industry association responsible for defining and promoting DAB digital radio, providing knowledge and expertise that helps countries successfully adopt and implement broadcast digital radio.
WorldDAB has over 100 member organisations from 30 countries with 1200+ experts from across the radio industry - public and commercial broadcasters, regulators, network providers and manufacturers of chips, receivers, automobiles, and professional equipment.
In Europe, the most widely adopted form of digital terrestrial radio is DAB / DAB+. DAB+ coverage is expanding rapidly across the continent with services on air in most European countries. There continues to be particular focus given on extending and improving coverage on major automotive routes. Digital radio developments are taking place in other non-EU markets - in Norway national FM services were switched off in 2017 and Switzerland is planning a digital switchover between 2020 and 2024.
WorldDAB works to encourage receiver, automotive and mobile phone manufacturers to include DAB in as many devices and vehicles as possible. According to an EU Directive from the European Commission published in December 2018, all new cars across Europe will be required to include DAB+ digital radio as standard from December 2020. This directive will enable drivers to receive digital radio services throughout Europe. In response to the accelerated rollout of DAB+ across Europe and beyond, the WorldDAB Spectrum and Network Implementation Committee was launched in 2019 to support the implementation of DAB+ networks and to safeguard appropriate regulation and spectrum for DAB.
